MCS NIC601962
Government grants for Hampshire homeowners
The definitive plain-English guide to what is available, who qualifies, and the one thing that decides whether you can claim any of it: your installer's MCS registration. Ours is NIC601962, and we make the application on your behalf.

At a glance
What is currently available
£7,500
Towards an air source heat pump. Paid to the installer and deducted from your quotation — you do not claim anything back.
£2,500
Towards an air-to-air system. Ideal for heating a property with no gas supply, and it cools in summer too.
0% VAT
0% VAT on qualifying energy-saving installations — including heat pumps and solar. We show the VAT treatment on your written quotation.
The part people get caught by
Your installer must be MCS accredited
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme application is made by the installer, not by you. A company without MCS accreditation cannot access the grant on your behalf — no matter how good their price looks before the grant is applied.
Our registration
Every MCS registration is publicly searchable on the MCS certified register. Check ours — and check anyone else's before you sign.
Detail
Each scheme explained

| ECO4 | Funded retrofit packages, usually including insulation alongside heating measures | Lower-income households and specific benefit recipients | Delivered through obligated energy suppliers |
| Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) | Fabric measures — principally insulation rather than appliances | Households in lower council tax bands and lower EPC ratings | Delivered through obligated energy suppliers |
| 0% VAT on energy-saving materials | VAT relief on qualifying installations including heat pumps and solar | All qualifying domestic installations | Applied on your invoice by the installer |

Indicative result
- Boiler Upgrade Scheme — likely to apply. Up to £7,500 towards an air source heat pump, deducted from your quotation. We apply on your behalf under MCS NIC601962.
- 0% VAT — 0% VAT on qualifying energy-saving installations, which covers both heat pumps and solar.
- ECO4 — we cannot judge this from the answers above. Eligibility depends on household income and the benefits received, not on the property. If someone in the household receives means-tested benefits, it is worth asking us to look at it.

Questions
Grant FAQs
Do I pay the grant amount up front and claim it back?
No. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is paid to the installer and deducted from your quotation. The figure you are asked to pay already has the grant taken off.
Can any installer claim the grant for me?
No. Only an MCS accredited installer can make the application. BBI Heating is MCS accredited under NIC601962, which is publicly checkable on the MCS register.
Is £7,500 available for every heat pump?
The grant applies to qualifying air source heat pump installations. Air-to-air systems attract £2,500. Scheme conditions apply and we confirm your specific position at survey.
Does the grant apply to solar panels?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a heating grant, so it does not cover solar PV. Qualifying energy-saving installations, including solar, currently carry 0% VAT.
What if my property does not qualify?
We will tell you at survey rather than after you have signed, and we will quote you the best non-grant alternative — a high-efficiency boiler or a hybrid — so you can compare.
Do landlords qualify?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is open to private landlords as well as owner-occupiers, subject to the scheme conditions. We check this as part of the eligibility assessment.
